Sedation Dentistry

ONE-ON-ONE CARE IN Albuquerque, NM

Providing Gentle, Judgment-free Care

Sedation Dentists

Our dentists, Dr. Stewart Anderson and Dr. Derek Lines, are qualified to offer sedation dentistry to our patients. They use the latest medication and safest dental sedatives to help you feel comfortable. We are one of the few dental clinics in Northeast Albuquerque to carry multiple forms of dental sedation to give you the best, most pain-free experience.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Dental sedation is usually safe for adults and children. These drugs lower your anxiety for any procedure by calming your nerves, rather than causing you to fall asleep the way general anesthesia does. Our sedation dentist has several drugs available to help you rest easy and recover with a healthy smile.

Oral Sedatives

Similar to muscle relaxers such as Valium, oral sedatives need an hour to kick in. Before your visit, simply swallow the prescribed medication. By the time you arrive at Legacy Dental, you’ll feel drowsy and ready for the dentist’s chair. Because of these sleepy side effects, be sure to have someone drive you to and from your dentist visit.

Laughing Gas

This sedative is applied through a mask. The gas helps patients feel relaxed and numbs pain. In fact, some patients may feel so relaxed that they fall asleep.

Although each method is different, each type of sedation comes with side effects. The drowsiness and relaxation from these dental sedatives can make operating vehicles or performing other tasks dangerous. Always bring someone to drive you home safely after visiting the sedation dentist. Consult your dentist before returning to work or performing other responsibilities to ensure your comfort and safe arrival home.

We’d love to tell you more about our sedation options and how they can take away your fears of going to the dentist. We gladly serve Northeast Heights and the greater Albuquerque, New Mexico, area. For questions about cost, process, risks or side effects of sedation dentistry, call Legacy Dental today.
